If Someone Wants To Leave, You’ve Got To Let Them Go.

“There ain’t no way you can hold onto something that wants to go, you understand? You can only love what you got while you got it.”

If someone wants to leave your life, you’ve got to let them go. You shouldn’t have to convince them to stay, nor should you want to.

We spend our whole lives building relationships just to watch them fall apart. The passion and effort end in disappointment when somebody just gets up and carelessly leaves your life, just as easily as they entered it.

I sometimes wonder if it is better to feel nothing at all than to feel everything, so much, all at once. Is it better to be without passion and love, to save ourselves from the hurt?

Whether someone enters your life for a minute, an hour, a week, a month, a year, or a lifetime, we attach ourselves to these beautiful strangers in hopes they will stick around. Stick around at our best, stick around at our worse. Stick around to see the true colors and love those colors anyway.

We quickly grow close to them, trusting in them to take care of our hearts but sometimes these people don’t meet the standards we set them so high at. We get blown away at the person we thought they were compared to the person they are.

The “real them” steps out into the light, plain as day, for you to see, and you wonder if every word they have ever spoken to you was real? If all the actions they made were genuine? If they ever really even felt the way they said they did?

But some people just can’t take the harsh reality that there is no such thing as ‘perfect’.

Trying to convince somebody of your worth can become a sick obsession. We try and try, fight to get through to them, fight for a small ounce of closure but we never really get it.

I’ve always said people come into your life at a certain time for a certain reason, but I never understood why people leave.  How could someone be dangerously attached to somebody and in an instant change their mind? We will never have these answers, will we? The minds of others are always changing and as hard as we try to understand, we just never will.

You can’t miss someone who doesn’t want to be missed by you. You can’t love someone who doesn’t want to be loved by you. You can’t force someone to see what you want them to see.

So if someone wants to leave your life, you’ve got to let them go.
